Aah Yes... Echolink.

After 3 days of trying, I'm finally hooked up on the Echolink. Definitely an alternative if you "can't" afford a Hamshack at Base yet. Though, it has its limitations.

1st Echolink QSO - with 9M2CW (Chin, Ipoh), but cut off (TOT) after intro. Tried to re-connect but to no avail. 2nd Echolink QSO - with 9W2YCC (Chan, Cheras). 5/9.

Day 1: downloaded Echolink after hearing QSO on RKK (teruja, beb). Tried to validate AA but something went wrong with document (issue & expiry date missing!)
Day 2: scanned and email original AA and replied to Echolink validation. Hooray! Approved. Tried to log in BUT problem with Router.
Day 3: Enabled my DMZ to work with my P1 Router. Figured it out! Yesss!

Been a long time...

...since me last posting. Executive summary: -

1) Got the TM-271A on mobile! But..., will definitely be enticed at the coming Hamfest M'sia 2010 this coming 30 July-1 August @ KL Tower!

2) Viral + Bacterial Fever! Oh dear... Annual Leave wasted!

3) XYL in hospital - Bacterial Infection! Bad times... But survived.

4) Mobile antenna clamp broke! Crap. Changed to me old quarter wave...but that too - the cable snapped! Crap x2. (Thanks to my resident MacGyver, it was fixed good as new!) Now, gotta look for a dual-band rig to match me dual band antenna...hmmmm... "Alasan".

5) Off to Kuching for Rainforest World Music Festival! Great time. Though, not a peep from any hams in Kuching. Apparently, they have only ONE repeater.

6) Back in KL with much to do. But business has been GOOD. Syukur!

7) Gearing up for Ramadhan, Hamfest, BR24's 3rd Year Anniversary, and Aidilfitri!

New contacts in my QSO Log: -

- 9W2UJO (Johari - long lost friend from ntv7)
- 9W2LMF (Ben)
- 9M2GTR (Faizal)
- 9M2NL (Nasir)

Lost in Kilo Lima Alpha November Golf...

... yesterday, and I don't intend to go back there! So disappointed didn't get a chance to attend my staff's wedding. :( but after 3 hours on the road, we gave up. Dreaded road works and road closures. Traffic was disorderly and road signs were terrible.

Anyway, had a better day today. Albeit coming down with a fever.

Checked my SWR on the rig - 1.3-1.4 with the MC101S. Within limits but can be more optimum. Rasanya kena potong sikit. EE advised about 1cm. Kena pi cari cutter. (Or perhaps buy that black Larson). :)

Thank you Uncle Joe (9W2UJO) for lending me your SWR meter. Have to get one of those.

P/S: on V.25 now (pic), called RZK but no response yet.

Have a mug of Nesvita and a smile...

... that's what you get when you eyeball till late and get a little peckish afterwards. Best solution for someone like me who is the "eat to live" type (albeit contrary to popular belief... hahaha).

After a first eyeball with the MARTS taikos, I am convinced that I must become a member! So much to learn, to little (spare) time. Eventhough it's a quarter past three in the morning, nobody can stop me from logging this in. Hehehe.

Met 9W2AXE after a long time! Smashing fellow! Thanks AXE for remembering this writer.

Met 9W2UJO... astaga rupa-rupanya Abang Joe! Diam-diam ubi ya... ;) . We'll meet up again on Sunday.

Tq bro for the tips. Must find an SWR meter! (Anyone can help?)

Enjoying my new rig. Tomorrow (if we wake up early enough) we go shopping with AGZ!

73

P/S: Sempat juga QSO di SCS bersama Abg Koy, Pak Ngah, Pak Razif & Abg Adi..., al-maklumlah... hehehe... nasib baik dah nak subuh... kalau tak, lagi tiga jam tada hal on lagi! (Pak Ngah... bila bulu bertemu bulu, semakin rapat semakin sedap... hehehe.. astaghafirullah... bawa mengucap.... hehehe... moh pi tido! Mata udah pejam.)

All Geared Up!

Finally got me mobile rig - Kenwood TM 271A (albeit single band). Sleek. Easy to program. Good wholesome sound. Plus a Diamond MC101S full length antenna! On low power, it can simplex easily from Pandan Indah to Bangi (as proven this afternoon).

But omigod... It took the best part of 2 hours to install all that! Susah benor jalopy MPV aku nih. (Nasib baik nak pasang tu murah!) Anyone needs to install their rig, I recommend "Q Audio & Accessories" in Pandan Indah (the one heading to Shamelin). It's next to Newton Leather, first left at the traffic lights after the MRR2 exit into Shamelin. Look for Sam. Tell him "The Boss" sent you! Hahaha!

Yep, this new VHF rig's gonna give me hours of pleasure! Hehehe.... Next up - another dual or multiband HT. Then on to the big stuff - HF! Anybody knows a good HT to qso on the 6 meter? Or if there is, is there any worth to qso on that band? Hmmm....

(Still looking for an astronaut! When's that ISS passing over here again?)

Can we talk?

No, not the Tevin Campbell song.... Was just wondering yesterday on how to talk to astronauts on the ISS. Indeed possible. Downlink Freq - 145.800 MHz, Uplink Freq (for Region 3) - 144.49 MHz. Must try it. One can also track the satellite flight path at http://www.n2yo.com/ There's also a 5-day prediction on the flight path of many other satellites, so you can see when the bird passes your way.

On another note, still eager to set up my mobile rig. Hmmm.... now am a little partial over the Kenwood. The 217A for a budget single band (may have to do for now) and the V71A for dual band. If Icom, then perhaps the 2200 on budget or 208. Additionally, the HT to aim for is the THF7E or the T90A.

Oh dear, so many rigs, so little time.... (and $$$).

5 alphabets, 10 minutes per day...

...Maka ITULAH pesanku hai mambaaannnggg.

But seriously, that's how much of prescribed practice one must undertake to learn CW. On the way back from 9W2TLZ / SC2-TL's Tahlil in Bandar Bukit Mahkota, Bangi, I simplexed with SSO (Abg Shon) and el-professori, 9-MIKE-2-PRO (Abg Zek) on V.17 - all the way till Base! Great QSO!

Tnx Shon atas nasihat HF unit tu. 857 and 897 sama rupa-rupanya.

Mantop!

KONVOI AMAL KL-GERIK-YALA BERAKHIR

Saya pasti doa kita semua mengiringi Allahyarhamah.

Konvoi Amal berjaya menghantar semua bantuan kepada anak-anak yatim. Syukur usaha kita menepati sasaran.

PM's Keynote at the 24th APR 2010... Strengthening Comprehensive and Cooperative Security in the Asia Pacific

Prime Minister YAB Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Tun Razak delivering his Keynote Address at the 24th Asia Pacific Roundtable at the Sheraton Imperial, KL. Looking on is DYAM Raja Dr Nazrin Shah and Tan Sri Jawhar Hassan.

Sent from my BlackBerry® wireless device via Vodafone-Celcom Mobile.

Too busy, no TX today....

...monitored only.

Early morning tomorrow, attending the 24th APR at Sheraton Imperial with a Keynote Address by YAB PM. It's a conference which is close to my heart. (After all, I edited the 10th APR... 14 years ago! My, my how time flies..., and how the issues have evolved in this new millennium.) I'm proud that for the first time, BR24 is the Official Newsradio station for this international conference.

There's still much to learn on this new interest. Ham's definitely something which will not go out of style. Should check out the ARRL manual.

You learn more everyday..., and yearn more!

My HF radio of choice now, (after some advice from GOD...) FYI, it's the FT857D: -

The Yaesu FT-857D is the worlds's smallest HF/VHF/UHF multimode amateur transceiver.
It is the sucessor to the earlier FT-857. But the new D version adds the 60 meter ham band and includes the formerly optional DSP-2 Digital Signal Processing Unit. The FT-857D is loaded with features, high power output and a receiver that blends the renowned performance of the FT-897D and FT-1000 Mark V. It provides coverage of the 160 to 6 meter bands plus the 144 MHz and 430 MHz bands! The ergonomic layout and large tuning knob insure safe mobile operation. And look at the receive coverage: 0.1-56, 76-108, 118-164 and 420-470 MHz The front panel is removable and it is remotable with the optional YSK-857 separation kit. Refinements include: spectrum display, 32 color display, beacon mode, keyer, 200 alphanumeric memories and CTCSS.

Mobile rig, perhaps try this first... FT1900

Luv the Yaesu! Next handy of choice: -
The VX3R or 6R...

Picked out a nice place for my Ham Shack! Tested the TX from there via my current handy... 5,9! Now, to pick out a nice desk and leather chair! Hehehe...!

a) Diamond antenna can be placed just outside the "balcony"
b) Swap the quarter-wave on my jalopy with a full-length Larsen...

Now, THAT's what I call a P-L-A-N.

NB: Mobile Station WQH433 now has my nice CS on its rear windscreen! Next time you see 9W2TVR up in front, CQ lah..., we can meet on the RKK or RBC machine! Cheerio!

FT8900R... but first...

The FT-8900R is a ruggedly-built, high quality Quad Band FM transceiver providing 50 Watts of power output on the 29/50/144 MHz Amateur bands, and 35 Watts on the 430 MHz band. It includes leading-edge features like cross-band repeat, dual receive, VHF-UHF Full Duplex capability, and over 800 memory channels. And its 10-meter FM coverage brings the possibility of world-wide FM DX-ing to you on your drive in to work!

...but first, aim for this...

The Yaesu VX-8R HT provides a full 5 watts FM on 50/144/430 MHz plus 1.5 watts on 222 MHz. It supports Blue Tooth hands-free operation with the optional BU-1 and BH-1 or BH-2 accessories. There is also an optional GPS unit and antenna with loads of features. This radio supports APRS 1200/9600 bps data communication (B band only). Like the VX7R, the VX8R is submersible and meets IPX57 specifications (3 feet for minimum of 30 minutes). A powerful 7.4 V 1100 mAh Lithium Ion battery is included. An optional 3 x AA battery cell case will be offered soon. This HT is small, only 2.36 x 3.74 x 0.92 inches (thinner than VX-7R). It supports simultaneous independent 2-signal dual receive function with both V + V or U + U. It has weather band receive with Weather Alert. A barometric sensor is included. You can even operate Amateur radio while receiving FM broadcasts! The receive coverage is wider than VX-7R, with an independent AM/FM broadcast receiver circuit. The dot matrix LCD display provides Memory tag up to a maximum of 16 characters. You even get a high-resolution Spectrum Analyzer with ±60 channels indication with wave monitoring of received/modulated signal! And DCS and CTCSS encode and decode is included.

I don't mind this! Cool!

Yaesu FT817ND

The radio is a fully self-contained, battery-powered, low power amateur MF/HF/VHF/UHF transceiver for portable/camping/mountain top use. Providing coverage of of the 160-10 meter amateur bands including 60 meters, plus the 6 M, 2M and 70 cm bands, the FT-817D includes operation on the SSB, CW, AM, FM and digital modes. This radio is designed for use either from an external DC source or internal batteries and provides up to 5 watts of power output when on external DC power. When using the battery pack or 8 AA cells (not supplied), the radio automatically switches to 2.5 watts. The multi-function LCD screen includes selectable blue or amber backlighting which may be disabled for battery conservation. This radio comes with: MH-31A8J Hand mic, FNB-85 Ni-MH 1400 mAh battery, FBA-28 Battery case (8 x AA), NC-72B charger, YHA-63 Whip antenna for 50/144/430 MHz, E-DC-6 DC cable and shoulder strap.

9W2GOD's rig

The Yaesu FT897D
The coverage is HF 160 to 10 meters (including 60 meters) plus 50/144/430 MHz VHF/UHF. Receive is 0.1-56, 76-108, 118-164 and 420-470 MHz. It is ideal for home, vacation, emergency, rescue, DX-pedition or VHF/UHF rover operation. With optional items the FT-897D system can be configured for mobile, base or portable use.

Perhaps next time.

Maka bermula babak hidup pengendali amatur ini.
